The American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums (AAZPA) Librarians Special Interest Group (LSIG) formed in 1978 with the goal of increasing “communication and cooperation between zoo and aquarium libraries and information centers” (Manke, 1993). (The AAZPA is now known as AZA, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums). Among its many services, the LSIG created bibliographies, guidelines, and directories for smaller member libraries. Many of these bibliographies were donated to the Animal Welfare Information Center ( AWIC) and made available online. These bibliographies were last updated between the years 1988 and 1995 and thus provide historical materials and are not representative of current literature. They are arranged by species or topic area and many contain original introductions to the material. Some were provided as a service of both the LSIG and the Consortium of Aquariums, Universities and Zoos (C.A.U.Z.).
