DHHS. FDA. Center for Veterinary Medicine Releases Draft Guidance on New BSE Rule
Feb. 24, 2009 - The Food and Drug Administration has developed a draft compliance guide for renderers to answer questions raised by the rendering industry about a rule written to enhance protections against bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). http://www.fda.gov/cvm/bsetoc.html.

CFIA's Investigation into the December 2003 BSE Case found in Washington state, US
Canadian Food Inspection Agency
Following the diagnosis of BSE in Canada on May 20, 2003, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency launched a comprehensive and exhaustive investigation. Efforts included trace-back, trace-forward and feed investigations, which spanned four provinces and included some 2,700 animals. The Canadian approach to the December 2003 BSE case in the United States was similar in thoroughness.

Prions are implicated in BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy). These and similar diseases are known as TSEs (Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies). TSEs afflict other species, most famously sheep (scrapie). The image is 600 pixels across and the original is 3,548 pixels across.
