In 2003, the UK added an environmental enrichment section to the welfare of farmed animals regulation that requires pigs have access to material (e.g. hay, straw, or sawdust) in order to enable proper investigation and manipulation activities.

Farm Animal Welfare Council

The Shape of Enrichment was founded in 1991 as a partnership to further animal enrichment efforts worldwide. Articles written in the quarterly publication are dedicated to exchanging enrichment ideas among animal caretakers.
